Magic Jack internet phone allows the owner to make Unlimited and local long distance calls in the United States and Canada. Magic Jack is a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone service that connects to your computer not your modem like other VoIP phone services. Magic Jack costs $39.95 for the device and first full year of service and then $19.95 a year after that. It’s just like your regular phone service. Anyone can call from any phone without addition charges to you or special numbers and it’s just $19.95 a year for quality phone service. That's insane! You get a free phone number, caller ID, voice mail, and call waiting. Ya, I know $19.95 a year, WOW!
Availability of some local area codes and prefix’s are in short supply. If you have to take an alternate area code or prefix then incoming local calls will cost the caller a long distance call. One way around this, until an area code or prefix in your area is accessible is, by using your caller ID, do not answer the call and simply call them straight back with no cost to them. I know this is a minor bit of a hassle but for $19.95 a year.
Five minutes or so is all that is needed to get your Magic Jack connected. After easy step by step instructions that appear on your computer screen after plugging your Magic Jack in, plugging in your phone, you will hear that old familiar dial tone. A lot of the calls are as clear as the landline you have replaced, not all but most.
You can take it with you on trips and attach through your note book everywhere you can obtain a wireless Internet connection, which is about everywhere nowadays that alone can save tons of money on cell phone calls if you travel a lot. Magic Jack offers portability that other VoIP providers don’t.
The thing that you do need to know is that your computer has to be on to receive calls. If there is a power outage or problems with your service provider it does not work.
If your area code and prefix is not available then people calling from your area may be charged a long distance call.

What is VoIP and Sip?
What is VoIP?
VoIP is a term that stands for Voice over Internet Protocol, or Voice over IP. This type of telephony technology is what top digital phone services such as Magic Jack, Vonage or Phone Power use to provide very inexpensive phone service using internet protocol.
How does VoIP Work?
With VoIP the analog voice signal from any standard telephone is converted into a digital format that is compressed into IP packets. These IP packets (compressed data blocks) are sent across the internet using a shared network of routers and switches. To make this simple, like an email your phone call is routed through this network to the number you are calling like an email arrives at the address you entered.
This type of telephony is much cheaper to operate than the traditional landline services. Most VoIP phone services will offer their service for one low monthly fee, which includes everything. The amount usually depends on whether you sign up for multiple year deals, contracted deals or noncontract deals.
What is SIP?
Is SIP a product, service or a telephone? No, what SIP is, is a standard in protocol. SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) is used for unicast or multicast sessions. This means that you can have multiple media streams within one session with multiple participants. Media streams can consist of video conferencing, streaming multimedia, instant messaging and online games.
